Wild Dogs

So we were told the wild dogs were mainly in Apia, the city, but we quickly realized this isn’t true. They’re pretty much everywhere. We’ve had a few wander into the yard and at one point we found 5 of them fighting in our back yard. Everyone’s trash bins (where they throw their bags of trash to be picked up by the garbage truck) are at the end of their drive ways in a big wire box about 6 feet off the ground. This is to prevent the dogs from getting to them. You always see lots of trash lying around by the trash bin though so I’m guessing some dogs must be good jumpers? Anyway, we’ve been told by everyone multiple times not to approach the dogs (hence why they’re called wild dogs?) and that they can be aggressive when foods around. This has deterred me sometimes from walking around by myself. However, the Samoan people are ruthless with the dogs and will pelt them with rocks if they get anywhere near them. Consequently, the dogs have been conditioned that if you just bend down like you’re going to pick up a rock, they run away. Lucky for me the threat works, because I’m quite sure if the dogs knew how poor my aim actually was – they would not be running
